Next day of Janmashtami also known as Nandotsav is celebrated because baby Krishna is born and everyone is celebrating. It is believed that all the villagers of Braj visited Nand Baba’s house to see little Krishna and congratulate Mata Yashoda. Nand Baba distributed ornaments, clothes, cattle and various other valuables among saints and sages. All saints and sages bestowed blessings on Lord Krishna in return.

This day on 20 Aug 2022 also marks the 126th appearance day (Vyasa Puja Day) of A.C Bhaktivedanta Srila Prabhupada, the founder-acharya of ISKCON is celebrated on this day. Srila Prabhupada was born in 1896 on the day of Nandotsava (the next day of Janmashtami).

A bona fide spiritual master coming in this line of succession descending from Vyasadeva is considered a representative of Vyasa deva. Srila Prabhupada is the 32nd acharya in this disciplic succession and his disciples observe his appearance day as Vyasa Puja. For the devotees of world wide Hare Krishna movement this is the most important festival of the year. Devotees fast till noon. Various items are cooked for offering to the spiritual master, who in turn offers it to Krishna. Devotees read homage offerings written by them to glorify Srila Prabhupada. A grand abhisheka is performed and prasadam is distributed.
